TRIO Ventura County/West Valley Chapter
Activity Report January 2012
(note: see special meeting change notice below the following activity report)
Since
the
previous TRIO National Board Telephone Conference
call, our local chapter continues
with our efforts to expand our outreach programs in
the Southern California
community.
The
Board
of Directors made the decision to immediately close
our third Friday of the
month support group meeting in Westlake Village, CA.
The location was closed due
to the difficulty for our members to attend meetings
on a Friday night due to
congested traffic conditions in Southern California.
Our first Saturday of each
month TRIO Support Breakfast
meeting
in Ventura remains at the
same location.
TRIO
VCWV
Chapter is reopening its support group meeting and
will be held on the
third Saturday of each month. The breakfast meeting
will be held at Jerry’s
Famous Deli in Woodland Hills, CA. We
continue to develop our TRIO Traveling Chapter
Support Program under the
leadership of Board Member Jerry Jackson. The first
support meeting has been
approved by UCLA and on Wednesday, January 25, 2012,
250 stamped
"announcement-invitational" mailers; with TRIO
Chapter Membership Brochures included)
will be delivered to and
mailed out by the UCLA Liver Transplant Department.
The letter will go to their
pre/post transplant recipients regarding our TRIO
Chapter "Traveling
Chapter" Support Group series of speaker meetings.
UCLA Liver Department
Social Workers will be promoting TRIO Membership
during following meetings.
Once
the
initial meeting at UCLA is working, Jerry Jackson
will expand the support
meetings to other transplant hospitals in Southern
California. At future TRIO
VCWV Chapter meetings Jerry Jackson will, as our
"Public Policy
Representative for TRIO National, be updating
membership as to issues on public
policy including
local, regional
and national
. Subject report for
the February Speakers Meeting: "Doctor Do you talk
to your patients about
Organ Donation?" (Information was taken from January
12, 2012 Lifelines.)
We
continue
to work closely with the major transplant centers in
Los Angeles which
include UCLA, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, USC and
Saint Vincent’s Medial
Center. For
the seventh years, TRIO VCWV
Chapter was a Participating Partner in the 2012 Rose
Parade Float and will hosted
a successful float decorating session.
Our
TRIO
Chapter held its Annual Elections for new board
members on January 21,
2011. Our
new board consists of Pat
Beeman, Immediate Past President; Ronald S. Taubman,
President; Joanne Foley, Vice
President; Carol Jackson, CPA, Treasurer; Jerry
Jackson, Secretary and Henry David,
Member at Large.
As
an
active and committed TRIO Chapter, we are looking
forward to a continued
increase in our membership and influence within the
transplant community
through this year.
