Personal
I am the grandson of immigrants from Czechoslovakia. I have three sisters, all younger than me, and no brothers.
I have two sons and one daughter, all graduates from the University of Pittsburgh. All are out of the house and living on their own. One is married.
Education
Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering- University of Pittsburgh
Masters in Engineering Science- Penn State University
Work
I am experienced in the design of cryogenic (low temperature) equipment for trailer refrigeration, food freezing, rubber deflashing, paint removal, concrete cooling, grinding, and super conductor cooling. I also have experience in the design of processes and equipment utilizing fluorine and chlorine to modify the surface properties of plastics and rubbers.
Transplant Info
I am a heart transplant recipient from the Hershey Medical Center. I was transplanted with the heart of a 19 year old male on 18 April 1990. I have been doing rather well since then. I have discovered that the clue to good health is lots of physical and mental activity. I have competed in 16 consecutive transplant games. This includes both the U.S.A. and world games. I compete in the track events.
Why I joined TRIO
To share all that I have learned living as a transplant. I have learned much by observing and listening to my body as I recovered from a debilitated condition after my transplant. I now do things that I could not do before. My transplant opened a door that had been heretofore closed to me.
I have a special interest in gaining control of the World Transplant Games from the NKF. I believe that athletes should run the games. The games are now run by non-transplant people with very little input from the athletes.
