Support TRIO

Transplant Recipients International Organization, Inc. (TRIO) is an independent, non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life for transplant candidates, recipients, donors and their families. Through a national office in Washington, DC, a network of chapters and members-at-large, TRIO provides a wide range of services to the individual at the community level: awareness, support, education and advocacy.

Since its incorporation in 1987, TRIO has grown and has also experienced the normal 'ups and downs' of the non-profit which must rely on others' generosity for support. TRIO functions under a very lean national structure, returning the majority of incoming funding to serve its individual members. Most of TRIO's staff are volunteers, or professionals who also contribute volunteer hours to help TRIO succeed and continue to service the individuals related to transplantation.

Because transplant candidates, recipients and donors are often financially constrained (due to extensive medical needs), TRIO's Board of Directors recently voted to reduce the membership contribution to $10 for chapter members and $20 for members-at-large. In no way can this new membership fee structure support the valuable work of TRIO.

TRIO needs your financial support to continue to provide services and support to the transplant donor, recipient and candidate. TRIO serves the transplant community in many ways, some of which are:

  • as a vehicle for advocacy by representing the benefits and rights of transplant candidates, donors and recipients;
  • a comprehensive website (www.trioweb.org) where any interested person can access information on public policy, donor awareness and current events OR can share thoughts and information or ask questions on the TRIO Community Bulletin Board;
  • support through TRIO's Lend-A-Helping-Ear Program, a peer-to-peer support mechanism that matches those with questions or anxieties with someone who has experienced a similar situation;
  • LifeLines, TRIO's quarterly publication that reaches almost 15,000 individuals and healthcare professionals to provide news, information and chapter activity.
